5K Youth Race to Benefit Tullo

A RACE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE...

Grace Church of Topsail Youth have gotten together and decided they wanted to work with S4H and make a difference to in the lives of the less fortunate. They decided to train to run a 5K (3.1 mile) race and find people to sponsor them in their race, in an effort to raise money for the children at the Tullo School in Awassa, Ethiopia.

There of about 15 kids ranging from age 6yrs old - 13 yrs old that have been training to run a 5K in Wilmington, NC on May 28th.

There is even one child who is 4 years old that has been training to run the 1 mile race on the same day. Showing that you are never too young to make a difference

They are trying to find sponsors to donate money for their race and all proceeds would go towards the children of Tullo.

Would you be willing to sponsor these kids for their race in their effort to raise money for Tullo?

You can donate per kilometer, per mile, or just any amount you feel led to give. Donations are tax-deductible as you write your check to "Children's HopeChest." Please send your donations to:

214 Doral Dr. Hampstead, NC 28443

That way, we can collect all the money they receive and send it in together.

Thank you Youth of Grace Church of Topsail for your dedication and your heart for the children at Tullo. You are truly an inspiration!

A Spiritual Fast for Tullo

There are times in our lives when prayer just isn’t enough. It’s not because God isn’t listening or that He doesn’t care, it comes from a division that is created by worldly distractions.

Fasting isn’t a requirement or an item listed on God’s checklist of “The Holier-Than-Thou” Club. Fasting is a gift, an opportunity, to set aside the distractions of this worldly-life for a closer, more intimate relationship with God for the purpose of spiritual breakthrough.

We invite you to join Starved 4 Hope in fasting each Monday, beginning April 25th, for the children of Tullo. We will continue fasting every Monday until all the children at Tullo are sponsored. Will you join us in setting aside the distractions of this life for the purpose of seeking the greatest good for these children?

The Widow’s Fast found in 1 Kings 17, is a demonstration of how one person fasted for the humanitarian needs of another. There is much we can learn from this widow, as she was preparing for the last meal she and her son would take part in. In the midst of her own suffering, she recognized Elijah’s need as being greater than her own. By taking part in this fast, you recognize that the needs of these children, both spiritual and physical, is greater than your own. May God bless you in your fast.

Suggestions for Fasting:

Fasting is a personal experience between the individual and God, we are partaking in a fast as a communal body, but the way in which we fast as individuals is personal. Here are some suggestions for fasting, these are not required but recommended. Above all, seek God’s guidance in prayer for the way in which you should fast.

1. A traditional fast involves food.

a. You can fast for the entire day by abstaining from food and water.

b. You can fast from food while still consuming liquids. Milk or Natural Juices are best. Coffee, Tea, and Soda are ok but make sure you are consuming additional liquids, as caffeine tends to dehydrate a person.

c. You can fast from a specific meal breakfast, lunch or supper. Lunch is a common meal to fast from especially if this is your first time fasting.

d. You can fast from specific foods. Sweets, such as chocolate and cookies are popular. Another suggestion is anything that is processed.

e. You can fast from specific drinks. Try fasting from coffee or anything containing caffeine. You can abstain from any liquid other than water.

2. There are other ways of fasting and these can be creative.

a. I always have some kind of music playing in the background. If you are like me, fasting from the distraction of noise can be a helpful. Commit to turning the radio or music device off for a day. Take that time you would be listening to other sources and spend time in prayer for these children.

b. Another popular fast is from television. Devote the time you would spend watching TV to praying for these children and their needs.

c. Maybe the news or newspaper is a distraction for you, for a day put it down or turn it off. Don’t worry, you can always read it later or hear about it the next day.

d. For those who need technology. Turn off your phone, ipad, computer, etc. whenever it is not absolutely necessary. It’s just for a day.

e. Hobbies, many people have a specific activity that they participate in and often it is time consuming. For one day, abstain from any involvement in your hobby.

Our focus, is to set aside the distractions and busyness of our lives, so that we can completely focus on God and interceding for these children. Remember, these are just suggestions, seek God’s guidance and be creative.

Suggestions for Prayer:

While the way in which we fast may be different, our prayers should be united and focused. Here are some suggestions for prayer:

1. Pray for the salvation of each child.

2. Pray for the spiritual growth of each child.

3. Pray that the physical needs of each child be met.

4. Pray that each child would receive a sponsor.

5. Pray that the Word of God would become prominent among the people.

6. Pray that God would send the workers needed for the nourishment of souls.

7. Pray that others would become aware of the needs around the world and move into action.

8. Pray that the efforts of Starved 4 Hope would be a witness of God’s glory and presence in this world.

If the fast offered by a widow can change the life and course of one man, how much more can we as a group affect the lives of others? We hope you will join us as we seek God’s glory in the lives of each child.

Please check back frequently for updates on progress with sponsorship!

On behalf of the children and community of Tullo, thank you.

God Bless You!

Awana Presentation at SHBC

Scott's Hill Baptist Church Awana group asked us to come and speak to the children in Awana last night about the needs of the Tullo children.

Thank you SHBC for providing this opportunity to Starved 4 Hope.

We were able to show the Awana children pictures of the children and tell them about their circumstances and their needs.

At Awana, each week the children memorize scripture verses. For each verse that they memorize, they earn Awana money to be spent at the Service store a couple times a year.

At the next service store, the children of SHBC Awana group are going to be purchasing 168 bags of school supplies with their own Awana money. The supplies will be taken and hand delivered to the kids at Tullo by our mission team this July!

OVER HALF !

As of today,

We have OVER HALF the kids sponsored at Tullo Kebele in Awassa, Ethiopia.

Praise the Lord!

Thank you everyone who has stepped up and accepted the call to care for the needy, the poor, and the orphaned!

Thank you for your commitment to these children and their community.

Please continue to tell everyone you know about your relationship with your child and your convictions to care from them as God commands us.

"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." (1 John 3:17-18)

Thank you for taking action. We look forward to seeing the differences that we can make for this community by working together for God's glory!

Please continue to advocate for these children.

If you worry that you are annoying your friends/family/co-workers/neighbors or that your words are falling on deaf ears, do not give up! I recently reread a Bible verse that spoke to me about just this:

"Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant." (Galatians 1:10)

God commands us to take care of the poor and the needy (Proverbs 14:21, Proverbs 14:31, Proverbs 19:17, Proverbs 31:8-9, etc). We are also told frequently throughout Scripture of the consequences if we do not (Proverbs 21:13, Proverbs 28:27).

Thank you again for your efforts to take care of those in need.

If you know anyone else that would be interested in sponsoring a child at Tullo, please have them email me at Andrea@starved4hope.org for more information.

Also, check us out on www.Facebook.com/Starved4Hope There we have all the children at Tullo in our Tullo Children Photo Album, and you can see who still need to be sponsored!

**Stay tuned to see what Starved 4 Hope is doing in Guatemala (entry to follow in the next few weeks!)

81 children sponsored

‎81 children sponsored! That is phenomenal! Praise the Lord! That is almost half the children at Tullo. There are still 87 children that are in need of sponsorship.

Here is a quote from one of our favorite books, "Radical" :

"...orphans are easier to ignore before you know their names. They are easier to ignore before you see their faces. It is easier to pretend they're not real before you hold them in your arms. But once you do, everything changes."-David Platt

Thank you for not ignoring the children at Tullo.

God Bless You!

Update on Sponsorship

We have 40 children officially sponsored!

Thank you to all the people who have adovocated for these children and all the people who have stepped up to answer the call to sponsor these beautiful children. May God bless you for your generosity and may He bless the relationship that comes from this commitment to serve Him.

There are still 128 children that need sponsorship. Please continue to spread the word about these children. Tell your friends, tell your family, tell everyone that will listen (and even those that wont). Share your testimony with them and explain your convictions, and we ask that you pray.

Please pray that God will give you the words to reach people, pray that God will prepare their hearts for His message. Please pray that God will put us in touch with other compassionate people that want to get involved with Starved 4 Hope and our mission at Tullo.

With your help, we can make such a difference to these children. Together, we can give these children the hope that comes from a relationship with the Lord; we can give them a future.
